Our Curriculum
At Amberley Court, our curriculum is flexible, supportive, and shaped around the needs of each learner. We focus on creating the right conditions for pupils to re-engage with learning—building confidence, filling in gaps, and celebrating progress every step of the way.
We offer a broad and balanced mix of subjects, with the National Curriculum serving as a framework for our highly bespoke, personalised holistic curriculum. English and Maths remain central to the curriculum at Amberley Court, but just as important is the development of each pupil’s personal, social and emotional skills. We give thoughtful weight to all subject areas, often bringing learning to life through cross-curricular themes and creative experiences.
Learning goes beyond the classroom. Outdoor activities and educational visits are an essential part of our offer, helping to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and support emotional development. Pupils benefit from regular opportunities to take part in swimming, PE, and community-based experiences that enrich both learning and well-being.
We recognise that not all pupils will be ready to access a full National Curriculum straight away. Our curriculum is carefully differentiated to meet individual needs, with the aim of gradually expanding access and providing every child with meaningful learning opportunities that match their readiness and potential.
As pupils grow in confidence, they can work towards recognised qualifications, depending on their needs and interests. Some follow more practical or vocational routes that prepare them for life beyond school.
Because every child is different, our Coaches adapt teaching to suit each pupil’s strengths, interests, and support needs, ensuring they feel safe, seen, and able to succeed.
Learning at Amberley Court isn’t just about academic progress. It’s about helping every child take steady, supported steps forward at their pace, in their way, and with the right people beside them.

Core Subjects
We teach English, Maths and Science in a calm, supportive environment that helps pupils rebuild trust in learning. Small group teaching, clear routines, and individualised support help children make progress at their own pace—filling in gaps, celebrating strengths, and building confidence. When ready, pupils can work towards the qualifications that are right for them.

Personal, Social & Heath Education
PSHE at Amberley Court helps pupils make sense of themselves, others, and the world around them. We explore topics like friendships, feelings, identity, safety, and future choices in ways that are accessible, respectful, and relevant. Our curriculum includes Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), delivered with sensitivity and adapted to the needs and developmental stage of each pupil. The focus is always on emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, and helping pupils feel confident and informed.

Creative Arts
Art, music and other creative subjects are a core part of our curriculum at Amberley Court. These lessons give pupils space to express themselves, explore new ideas, and take pride in what they create. Creative arts can help reduce anxiety, build confidence, and support emotional well-being, all while developing important skills. Whether it’s painting, drawing, making music or trying something new, pupils are encouraged to experiment, reflect and enjoy the process.

P.E & Outdoor Learning
Movement and time outdoors are essential for wellbeing. Our PE sessions focus on enjoyment, participation, and building physical confidence. Activities are varied and inclusive, supporting regulation, teamwork, and self-esteem.
We also make the most of outdoor spaces to support learning in other subjects and to offer pupils moments of calm, connection, and curiosity. Whether it’s forest school-style sessions, nature walks, or simply fresh air and space to move, outdoor learning plays a key role in helping pupils feel grounded and ready to learn.

Humanities
In History, Geography and RE, we help pupils explore the world and their place in it. Our approach encourages curiosity, discussion, and making meaningful connections to real life. Lessons are adapted to be engaging and accessible, often using practical activities, visual resources, and group work to spark interest.
We focus on helping pupils develop an understanding of people, cultures, places, and events—while also encouraging empathy, critical thinking, and respectful dialogue.

Life Skills
Our life skills curriculum helps pupils prepare for everyday challenges and future independence. We cover practical areas like cooking, budgeting, travel training, and personal care, as well as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. These sessions build confidence and real-world readiness, tailored to each pupil’s strengths and next steps.
Whether it’s learning to make a meal, manage money, or plan a journey, life skills are taught in meaningful, hands-on ways that help pupils feel capable, supported, and prepared for what comes next.
Curriulum Pathway
Meeting Pupils Where They Are
Every child at Amberley Court arrives with their own experiences, strengths, and challenges. We start by creating a calm, safe space where pupils feel they belong.
At this early stage, we focus on emotional regulation, building trust, and reintroducing the routines of learning. Academic work is gently reintroduced through low-pressure, accessible activities—helping pupils reconnect with learning in a way that feels manageable and meaningful.
“The first step isn’t to push forward, it’s to feel safe enough to begin.”
Building Skills and Confidence
Once pupils feel more settled and secure, we begin to strengthen key academic and personal skills. This includes building confidence in reading, writing, and numeracy, while also developing communication, problem-solving, and emotional understanding.
Learning is highly adaptable—our Coaches tailor lessons to reflect each pupil’s needs, interests, and learning style. Alongside core subjects, we offer creative arts, PSHE, physical education, humanities and life skills, giving pupils the chance to succeed across different areas and experience the joy of learning again.
Progress is celebrated in small steps, helping pupils grow in self-belief and motivation.
“With the right support, every small step becomes a sign of strength.”
Moving Towards Meaningful Outcomes
As pupils grow in confidence and capability, we support them to work towards outcomes that reflect their goals and strengths. For some, this may include recognised qualifications such as Entry Level, Functional Skills, or GCSEs. For others, it may involve a more personalised or practical route focused on independence, well-being, and next steps beyond school.
Our approach isn’t about rushing, it’s about making sure every pupil is ready, supported, and working towards something that matters to them. We review progress regularly across academic, social, and emotional areas to ensure each learner is on a path that’s achievable, relevant, and right for them.
“Success looks different for everyone — what matters is that it’s theirs.”
